First edition, first impression. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “To my friend Dr. Geo. M. MacRae with best wishes, Dunninger”. Joseph Dunninger was one of the most famous mentalists of the twentieth century, a friend of Houdini and pioneer of performing magic on television. This volume is his exposé of spiritualism, describing it as “trickery and fraud” and analysing in detail how all the medium’s illusions are performed.

Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine in black. With the dust jacket. 14 plates. Lower corner bumped. An excellent copy in the lightly rubbed jacket with a few small chips and fraying at the ends of the tanned spine panel.
