First edition in English, first impression. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title to the actor Fewlass Llewellyn (1886-1941), “To Fewlass Llewellyn, the creator of Gilbey (see p. 170), from Bernard Shaw. 5th June 1914.” Llewellyn played the character of Robin Gilbey in the first production of Fanny’s First Play, which was presented anonymously at the Little Theatre, London on 19 April 1911. The play was first published in German translation as Fannis erstes Stück in the Neue Freie Presse, Vienna, in 1911. With Llewellyn’s address inscribed on the front pastedown.
Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine and top edge gilt. Housed in a custom green quarter morocco solander box. Spine a little rolled and toned, cloth on front board slightly wrinkled, endleaves faintly foxed. An excellent copy.
