Acting edition for the Festival of the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral.
First edition, first impression, titled and signed by Eliot on the jacket, with a note in his handwriting: “Lent to Speech Training Group.” One of 750 copies published in May 1935 for sale at performances of the play in Canterbury Cathedral, with slightly altered and abbreviated text following that used in the performances. The full text was first published in June of the same year by Faber and Faber.
Octavo. Original grey wrappers printed in dark blue. With a plain paper dust jacket. Upper inner hinge cracked but holding, annotations in ink to front free endpaper, pencil annotations to text throughout. Scattered mild foxing to contents; an excellent copy.
