First edition, one of the author’s own retained copies, signed by him on the front free endpaper: “Vladimir Nabokov. 326. May, 1957.” Nabokov had his own arcane private system for recording books in his own possession. The significance of the number 326 in the inscription is uncertain. Above the inscription is a small blue crayon “WS”, typical of his library, and the title page has a faint inkstamp “PK3.5.0 VA”, but again the significance of both these marks is unclear.
