First edition, first impression, presentation copy, of Drinkwater’s first collection of First World War poems, inscribed on the half-title verso to “To Henry Ainley, from John Drinkwater, 1916”. Ainley (1879-1945) was a prominent stage and screen actor, notable for his Shakespearean roles.

Octavo. Original red cloth, title label to spine. With the erratum slip. Spine sunned, title label tanned and a little chipped, slight rubbing to bottom edge of rear board, internally clean, slight crack between quires B and C, otherwise sound, a very good copy indeed.
