The Apple Cart: A Political Extravaganza by a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
A rare rough proof, one of only 25 rehearsal copies, preceding the first trade edition. Inscribed by the author on the upper wrapper, “To Sénor Julio Brouta for translation. Very private. G. B. S. 24th July 1929”. When writing plays it was Shaw’s normal practice to prepare rough proofs which would be corrected and reissued, sometimes two or three times, before the publication of the trade issue. Three different rough proofs of The Apple Cart were released during 1929, 3 copies of the first proof, 2 copies of the second proof, and 25 of this, the rehearsal edition.
Octavo. Original grey wrappers printed in black. Housed in a red cloth slipcase and chemise. Upper cover very slightly creased with a tiny chip from the lower corner. An excellent copy.
