STERN, G. B.
First edition, first impression, presentation copy inscribed by the author on the first blank “For L. D. Hughes, cordially from G. B. Stern”. G. B. Stern was the pen-name of Bertha Gladys Stern (1890–1973). She was known as Gladys as a child, later substituted Bronwen for Bertha, and was called Peter by her friends (but Tynx by Rebecca West). The jacket-designer, Brown, is best remembered for his series iconic posters produced for the London Underground.
