First edition, first impression: 2,020 copies were printed. Presentation copy, inscribed by the editor on the front free endpaper: “Frank, with all good wishes for Christmas from A. J., Dec. 1934”. We have been unable to establish who “Frank” was but he must have been an acquaintance as ODNB point out that “[Symons’s] friends commonly called him AJ”. A.J.A. Symons (1900-1941), book collector and writer, will always be associated with Baron Corvo through his biography The Quest for Corvo (1933), “a brilliantly evocative account of how he established the facts surrounding the life and literary career of Baron Corvo (Frederick Rolfe), the eccentric homosexual writer” (ODNB).

Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered green on gilt panel, top edges green. With the dust jacket. Jacket spine toned, a little foxing to front and back panels, spine of binding dulled and slightly rolled, but a very good copy with the elusive dust jacket.

Bibliography: Woolf A10.
