First edition, first impression. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the night of the play’s premiere to the actress who played the character of Denman, a parlourmaid: “To Miss Pamela Keily (Denman) with the author’s compliments, 21 March 1939” (front free endpaper). The play, which starred a young Michael Redgrave, was first performed at the Westminster Theatre in London.
Octavo. Original blue-grey cloth, spine title in red, fore and bottom edges untrimmed. With the dust jacket. Extremities lightly chipped, spine a little toned, front free endpaper faintly foxed, contents toned. A very good copy in a slightly edge-chipped jacket with a tanned spine panel.
