First edition, first impression. Inscribed by the author on the dedication leaf, “To Howard Coster – and I hope you enjoyed [?] J. B. Priestley October 1929”. Coster (1885–1959) was a British photographer whose portrait of Priestley now hangs in the National Portrait Gallery.

Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Upper board bowed, lightly rubbed at extremities, spotting to edges and partial tanning to free endpapers. A very good copy in the rubbed, spotted, and toned jacket with some small nicks and splits.
