The Slaves of Solitude. A Novel.
First edition, first impression. A fine association copy with the author’s signed presentation inscription on the front free endpaper, “To Martha with love from Henderson, 14th May, 1947”. Henderson was one of Hamilton’s many nicknames, and the recipient was Martha Smith, secretary to Hamilton’s good friend and publisher Michael Sadleir, director of Constable and the dedicatee of the last volume in the London trilogy An unusually appropriate inscription, as the protagonist of this book is the secretary for a publishing firm. Rare thus.
