To Harry Higgs, who will find his portrait as one of my most faithful friends and helpers on page 39, G. Bernard Shaw”. Henry Higgs (1874–1961) spent several decades in the service of the Shaws, as did his wife Clara, who was the cook-housekeeper at Ayot Saint Lawrence.
