(PARKER, Charlie) PARKER, Chan & Francis Paudras.
“to Bird with love”
First and only edition, no limitation but hard to find, particularly in the fragile, entirely integral box. Visually superb, très émouvant memorial to Parker, reproducing the pictorial and documentary archive about which Chan, his lover, had “cared enough to preserve religiously.” This copy is inscribed by Paudras to acclaimed jazz documentarist Bruce Rickers; “To Bruce Rickers. This tribute to a genius for lovers only – friendship always – Francis Paudras 3/3/88”. Rickers’ first film, the verité Last of the Blue Devils, drew him to the attention of Clint Eastwood while he was working on his Parker biopic Bird. Rickers subsequently worked with Eastwood on Charlotte Zwerin’s Monk documentary Straight No Chaser, The Bridges of Madison County, and Mystic River, he also produced and directed two documentaries about Eastwood. Rickers has “tabbed” the book with Post-it notes, evidently for rostrum camera work. An excellent association copy.
