Un Etre Etoilique. [A Starlike Being.]
Reprinted from The Criterion, Volume XVII, No. 66.
First edition of Miller’s 7,000 word essay in praise of Anais Nin, an offprint from The Criterion vol XVII no. 66, this a presentation copy inscribed by Miller on the front wrapper verso, “To James F. O’Roark, from Henry Miller, 2/18/79”. Dr James F. O’Roark was a Santa Barbara eye doctor, and a notable Henry Miller collector. Copies of this offprint were produced only for the author, with none issued for sale, which goes some way to explaining this latter day presentation inscription of a copy evidently retained for over four decades. Itself among the scarcer Miller “A” items, Un Etre Etoilique (A Starlike Being) is rare inscribed.

Octavo. Original tan wrappers, titles to front wrapper in black. Housed in a custom-made orange cloth slipcase and chemise. Very light rubbing to corners, and one or two tiny marks to wrappers, but a superb copy in excellent condition.
