The Cantos of Ezra Pound.
Some Testimonies by Ernest Hemingway, Ford Madox Ford, T. S. Eliot, Hugh Walpole, Archibald MacLeish, James Joyce and others.
First edition, first printing, scarce: Copac records only 2 copies in British and Irish institutional libraries (Cambridge, Durham). This slim and ephemeral publication, “for gratis distribution” (Gallup), was issued in connection with the first American edition of A Draft of XXX Cantos (Farrar & Rinehart, 1933). Ford Madox Ford was the guiding light behind this little pamphlet: “Ford wrote to John Farrar of Farrar & Rinehart… that he wanted to assemble a tribute to Pound from several writers. Farrar agreed, and soon Ford was receiving testimonials from many of Pound’s old friends” (J. J. Wilhelm, Ezra Pound: The Tragic Years 1925-1972, 1994, p.64). The other contributors are Edmund Wilson, William Carlos Williams, Allen Tate, Elizabeth Madox Roberts, Francesco Monotti, Paul Morand, H.D., John Peale Bishop, and Basil Bunting.
Octavo pp. 22; original printed wrappers, stapled as issued. Even toning to periphery of wrappers, small loss from head of front panel, wrappers and text detached, yet a very good, clean copy of this fragile pamphlet.
