First edition thus; one of 26 not for sale copies, hardbound and printed on Japon vellum, lettered A-Z (this one V), from an overall edition of 176 copies. The Albondocani Press’s edition is the first separate edition and the first complete edition (second overall), of Stein’s short play, which was first published, with editorial liberties taken, in the October 1939 issue of Creative Writing, but here published “exactly as the author wrote it” (publisher’s preface), with the text taken from Stein’s original manuscript in the Gertrude Stein Collection at the Yale Library, each page representing one leaf of the manuscript. The second Albondocani Press publication.
