Second and best English edition of Lamartine’s Voyage en Orient, first published in English in 1835, the same year as the French original. The translation has been ascribed to a “Miss Hill” (see Hilal al-Hajiri, British Travel Writing on Oman: Orientalism Reappraised, 2006, p. 30).
3 volumes, octavo (200 119 mm). Uncut in the original boards, paper title labels to spines. Lithograph portrait frontispiece of Lamartine . Rubbing to corners and joints and some chipping to spine ends, two splits to the spine of volume one, but an unsophisticated copy, largely unopened, with the publisher’s advertisements in volume I (12 pp., dated September 1836) and volume III (2 pp.).
