RODGERS, Richard, & Oscar Hammerstein.
A Musical Play Based on Lynn Riggs' Green Grow the Lilacs.
First edition, first printing, of the first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration. Based on Lynn Riggs’s play, Green Grow the Lilacs (1931), Oklahoma! premiered on Broadway on 31 March 1943 and ran for a record 2,212 consecutive performances. It is still viewed as one of the greatest of all musicals, and is particularly suited to book format, and well noted for epitomising the development of the more dramatically substantial “book musical”.
