Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to the dedicatee, Elizabeth Hassard, on the dedication page: “With love from Peter, November 1950.” Stern was known as “Peter” to her friends; Elizabeth Hassard, a friend, is also the “shanghai’d Godmother” to whom Peter’s Room by Antonia Forest is dedicated. The book was first published in the UK earlier the same year.
