COPE, Sir William H.
The History of the Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort’s Own) Formerly the 95th.
First edition. Ownership inscription of Francis G. M. Boileau, dated 1881, to the front pastedown, together with a note to “See p 335 & 336 as to my brother Charles A. P. Boileau.” Lieut. Boileau died of wounds on Malta following his involvement in the first assault on the Redan at Sevastopol. An extremely handsome regimental, when found in such clean and sound condition. “216pp on the Napoleonic period” (Sandler).
Octavo. Original rifle green cloth, title and regimental badge gilt to the spine, blind panels to the boards, brown surface paper endpapers. Chromolithographic frontispiece and 4 other similar plates, 16 battle plans, dispositions in colour. Just a little rubbed at the extremities, hinges slightly cracked, light toning and the occasional spot of foxing, but overall a very good copy.
