First edition, first impression, a superb copy, of this first collection of First World War poems by Scottish poet Lance-Corporal Joseph Lee (1876-1949), 1st/4th Battalion Black Watch. Lee’s poem “The Green Grass” was acclaimed by John Buchan as “one of the best war poems in any language”. This copy has the library bookplate of Tarradale House, the mansion on the River Beauly, Inverness, Scotland, which later became the property of the University of Aberdeen, and was used as a reading haven for Highland scholars.
