First editions, first impressions save for volume II of Mediaeval & Early Tudor (early impression dated 1937) and Late Stuart (second impression). Author H. Avray Tipping (1855–1933) was a prominent authority on the architecture and gardens of English country homes. He was the editor of Country life from 1907 to 1933, and also worked as a garden designer in the Arts & Crafts style. A very attractive set of an important and heavily illustrated work on English architecture.
9 volumes, folio. Original blue buckram backed blue cloth, titles to spines and upper boards, gilt, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. Frontispiece to each volume and illustrations throughout. Lightly rubbed at extremities. An excellent set.
