[HENRY, David]
An Historical Account of the Curiosities of London and Westminster, in three parts.
First published thus in 1755, Henry's London guidebook is in three parts, "An historical description of the Tower of London and its curiosities"; "An historical description of Westminster-Abbey"; and "An historical description of St. Paul's Cathedral"; each with divisional title-page, here dated 1765, 1764, and 1765 respectively. The book was reprinted many times, and the component parts seem to have been haphazardly gathered. Its anonymous author David Henry (1709-1792) was successor to Richard Cave (Edward Cave's nephew) as publisher of the Gentleman's Magazine.
Duodecimo (164 × 100 mm). Contemporary unlettered pale sheep, double gilt rules, paper shelf-label in upper compartment of spine, red sprinkled edges. Contemporary ownership inscription of a German tourist (C. D. Schimmelmann 1766) at the foot of the general title. Corners worn, small hole in leather on rear cover, joints just a little tender but holding firm, a nice copy.
