First Edition, First Impression, English Issue with the new preliminaries. One of the greatest and most influential photographic books ever to have been published. The artist was by training a botanist - his use of extreme close-up technique began as part of his study. However he swiftly developed a fully fledged abstracted aesthetic which found a ready audience around the world. Many subsequent photographers cite this book as a key influence on their work.

Quarto. Original green cloth, decoration and titles to upper board and spine gilt. With the photographic dust jacket and publisher's card slipcase printed on the spine in black. 120 full page photogravures by Blossfeldt. Some minor spotting but a superb copy in the rather torn and lightly rubbed dust jacket missing a number of very small pieces at the edges and with some internal repair. The rare slipcase in a little worn at the edges.
