SAFDIE, Moshe.
Beyond Habitat.
Edited by John Kettle.
Second printing, originally published in 1970. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "To Jin & Leon, it now seems like a fairy tale love Moshe, Boston July 1, 1979". Safdie is an architect and urban designer who became famous when his master's thesis, an apartment complex made of modular housing units, was chosen as the centerpiece of the 1967 World Exhibition. This volume is based on recorded discussions between the author and editor John Kettle, with Safdie stating in the foreword " sometimes I have rewritten and added to them. At times the observations are of a kind one confides only to a friend; I have let them stand because I have learned that ideas and process cannot be separated, that they must become one if we are to bridge the gap between concept and reality, in the environment as elsewhere".
Octavo. Original light brown cloth, titles to spine and upper board in blue. With the dust jacket. 32 pages of illustrations. An excellent copy in the lightly rubbed jacket.
