First edition, first printing. Published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris for the Exhibition of Virilio's photographic studies of the bunkers around the Western and Northern coasts of France. Accompanied by a theoretical explanatory text this work represents an early statement of his "war model" of the growth of cities and of the development of human society itself. "… to say that the positive phenomenon of technology came in large part from the arsenal and war is…hard for people to accept." (quoted in Gane 'Paul Virilio's Bunker Theorizing' in Theory, Culture & Society. , Vol. XVI, No. 5-6, p.87) Irrespective of this "mythical" dimension it is nonetheless a superb visual record. Text in French.

Square quarto. Original photographic stiff wrappers, titles to front cover in black, titles to spine in white. Minimal rubbing to edges, a lovely bright copy.
