First edition, first impression, presentation copy to Roger Fry, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "à Monsieur Roger Fry hommage de l'auteur J. Meier-Graefe, Dresden le 24. XII. 20." Fry has made some small pencil notes against some of the pictures, e.g., of one painting dated 1869, "? too early I shd say 72 73".
Quarto. Original linen-backed paper boards, spine and front cover lettered in black, front cover with sketch portrait of Cezanne in black. Illustrated, with tissue guards. Boards a little worn, front inner hinge cracked and held by fabric, a good copy only.
