Gothic Architecture: A Lecture for the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society.
First edition, one of 1,500 copies on paper; 45 copies were also printed on vellum. The entire first edition of Gothic Architecture was printed in public during the Arts & Crafts Exhibition at the New Gallery in London, "under the eyes of an interested and constantly renewed crowd" (Sparling p. 87). It was the first book printed in sextodecimo at the Kelmscott Press. This copy has the first-state misspelling "Van Eyk" at p. 45, l. 1, but the second-state reading "guilds" at p. 41, l. 16.
Sextodecimo. Original white cloth backed blue boards, titles to upper board in black. 4 and 6-line initials, title to first leaf of contents and shoulder notes in red. Ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper. Spine toned and a little worn, boards spotted. A very good copy.
