First edition, first impression. Inscribed by Frazer, anthropologist and author of The Golden Bough, on the half-title "A notre ami Francois Ceccaldi, en affectueuse reconnaissance de J. G. & L. Frazer". Also included is a plate from a different book illustrating the entrace to Trinity College, Cambridge (where Frazer was a fellow) taped to the front pastedown. Loosely inserted is a small compliments card addressed to the recipient as well as the pamphlet of Addenda and Corrigenda for the bibliography.
Octavo (216 × 135 mm). Near contemporary black morocco, titles to spine, ruling to boards, and top edge gilt. Portrait frontispiece and folding facsimile. A few spots to edges, small spot to half-title. An excellent copy.
