First edition, first impression. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "To Nash and Marjorie, love from Eudora". Nash Burger was a high school classmate of Welty's who became an editor at the New York Times Book Review.
Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine and upper board in grey and green, green top-stain. With the dust jacket. Spine shaken, partial tanning to endpapers. An excellent copy in the tanned jacket, the upper panel of which has cleanly separated from the spine panel. The upper panel also has a small chip affecting the title.
