First English language edition, first impression. Originally published in Greece in 1902. Inscribed by the translator, Theodore Stephanides, on the front free endpaper, "To Margaret McCall, with best wishes, Theodore Stephanides. London, 25-2-1977". The author, Kostes(is) Palamas, was a significant figure in the late 19th-century Greek literary revival and is the author of the Olympic hymn. Translator Palamas Stephanides (18961983) was a Greek poet and naturalist, and the mentor of author Gerald Durrell,
