POUND, Ezra.
Antheil and the Treatise of Harmony.
First edition, first printing, special issue being one of just 40 numbered copies printed on Arches paper. The present example is one of the few signed by George Antheil and with a presentation inscription from the author on the half title page, "Wods from EZ anno V [1927]". We have not identified "Wods" but "EZ" is a particularly intimate self-identification for Pound. It is tempting to think the recipient was Edward Wadsworth, the Vorticist painter who had provided the decorative initials for Rodker's edition of Mauberley and with whom Pound had been friends from before the Great War. But Pound's habitual use of neologisms, nicknames, deranged orthography and appalling handwriting makes definite identification impossible.
Octavo. Original red wrappers printed in black. With the Contact Press slip pasted to the title page. Housed in a block cloth solander box. Small browning to two leaves from a clipping, backstrip cocked and lightly rubbed and faded but an excellent copy.
