With the author's signed presentation inscription to the half-title "For Mr and Mrs Eustace Seligman, in friendly remembrance of St. Tropez, a tale of the seas in a mystical atmosphere, with the best compliments of the author Marie Bonaparte, Saint Tropez August 1951." Bonaparte was the great-grand-niece of Napoleon I of France and one of Freud's most famous friends; it was to her that he remarked "The great question that has never been answered and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is "What does a woman want?"".

Octavo. Original green paper covered boards, titles to spine gilt, pictorial decoration to front board gilt. With 12 colour lithographs by John Buckland-Wright. Contents bright and clean, couple of minor marks to boards, slight bumping to tips, an excellent copy.
