CHURCHILL, Winston S.
My Early Life. A Roving Commission.

The Churchill papers contain copies of letters accompanying birthday and Christmas gifts from Frank Rose between 1957 and 1962. Churchill's first volume of sustained biography. A highly entertaining account of his childhood, schooldays at Harrow, military training at Sandhurst, experiences as a war correspondent in Cuba, and service attached to the Malakand field force on the north-west frontier of India, charging with the 21st lancers at Omdurman, and as a POW in South Africa during the Boer War.
Octavo. Original red cloth with titling to spine and upper board in gilt on black faux labels, gilt "signature" to the upper board. House in red quarter morocco, plush-lined, drop-back box by the Chelsea Bindery. Portrait frontispiece and 8 other plates, illustrations, and maps, one of them double-page, to the text. A little rubbed, endpapers slightly browned, else very good.
