CHRISTENSEN, Lars.
My Last Expedition to the Antarctic 1936-1937.
With a Review of the Research work done on the Voyages in 1927-1937. A Lecture delivered before the Norwegian Geographical Society, September 22nd, 1937.
First edition. This copy signed by Christensen beneath the portrait. Christensen was a Norwegian ship-owner and whaling magnate with a lifelong interest in Antarctica. He financed a number of expeditions devoted to the exploration of the Antarctic continent and its waters, and participated in a number of these himself. The 1936-7 expedition took a seaplane and they took over 2,000 oblique aerial photographs, covering some 6,250 square miles. Unusual, and uncommon signed.
Octavo. Original patterned paper-covered boards, printed patch label to the upper board. Portrait frontispiece and 10 other plates, maps to the endpapers. A little rubbed on the boards, but overall a very good copy.
