First Edition, Presentation Copy, inscribed by one of the authors to Mr and Mrs Paul Aportol, and with an autograph letter signed to Paul Aportol in the hand of the other, dated 93 rue Royale, Versailles, 25 February 1939, inserted, apologising for not replying to a previous charming letter (the reply begins "Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!").
Octavo. Contemporary brown quarter calf, spine lettered gilt and with double raised bands, marbled sides and endpapers, top edge gilt. Inscribed by one of the authors on the half title and with ALs inserted. Original wrappers bound in. Small nick to leather at foot of spine, text evenly toned, an excellent copy.
