Excellent image of Sims in performance in the last year of his life. Signed by photographer Barry Thompson on the recto and inscribed by him to Stan Getz verso; "To Stan Getz. This is the last photo I took of Zoot when he was at Lytes at the Royal York Hotel! He was a kind person but mean on his horn. He'll be missed by us all! From Barry Thomson." Getz first drew serious attention when he joined Woody Herman's Second Herd, becoming one of the "Four Brothers" alongside Sims, Serge Chaloff and Herbie Steward. Sims once described Getz, who was of a somewhat mercurial temperament, as 'a nice bunch of guys.' A fine image with an excellent association.
