Literary critic Lionel Trilling (190575) worked at Columbia during the same period as Barzun, and for thirty years the two jointly taught the Colloquium on Important Books, counting among their students Alan Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and Louis Menand. A lovely and significant presentation copy.
