First edition. This copy with an original photograph of Ruggles mounted verso of the half-title, inscribed beneath; "Your Majesty's faithful Servant, J. Ruggles;" and with a single page autograph note, initialled; "The binding of this book is in the colour of the Uniform of the XIX Punjabis, viz. Khaki with blue facings. J.R." "When the book was written there were still at least 25 survivors at the Lucknow Dinner" (Sorsky).
Octavo. Original khaki cloth with dark blue flash across the front board, title gilt to spine. Portrait frontispiece. Spine a little tanned, endpapers slightly browned, but overall a very sharp copy.
