Interesting piece of documentation from the American War of Independence, authorizing the reimbursement of £1400 to Samuel Squier by the State Pay Table of Connecticut, and signed by Committee members Fenn Wadsworth, James Church, and John Lawrence as treasurer. Countersigned by Oliver Wolcott, and endorsed by Squier, and docketed on the verso. Squier was one of the most active commissaries operating in the state, the £1400 he is claiming back here is probably equivalent to around £90,000 or $140,000 in today's currency. Countersigner Oliver Wolcott was one of Squier's fellow commissaries, having previously raised a company of militia in the French and Indian War, and served as a Major-General in the Connecticut Militia in the Revolution. He was elected to congress in 1775, and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and of the Articles of Confederation.

Fully manuscript pay warrant (169 × 215 mm) Lightly toned, some slightly fraying at the edges, creases from old folds, one or two small splits on the folds, overall very good.
