First edition, first printing. A remarkable presentation copy with the composer's signed presentation inscription to the title page, "To Mr Roger Sessions cordially Arnold Schoenberg July 1950". And with Sessions's later presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, "To Ernst from one conductor to another Roger Berkeley Jan, 7 '50 [sic]" The recipient is most likely to have been the Czech composer Ernst Krenek.
Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to upper board gilt and to spine gilt on a black ground, top edge stained yellow. Spine a little faded but an excellent copy.
