First collected edition, first impression. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Golding Bright, kindest regards from J. M. Barrie. Jany. 1929". The first play in this book is of course Peter Pan by which the character of Peter Pan was established in the form we think of him today. This edition also prints the famous 16 page dedicatory letter from the author "To the Five". Inscribed copies of any printing of Peter Pan are rare - we know of a small handful only to have appeared on the market. Golding Bright was a dramatic agent and the brother of Barrie's agent and close friend Addison Bright. In 1906 it was discovered that Addison Bright had not paid full royalties to many of his clients, including Barrie and Arthur Conan Doyle. This was probably not intentional theft, but a result of the depression he had been suffering, which left him incapable of managing his affairs. Barrie staunchly supported his friend and was devastated when he committed suicide in response to the legal proceedings.

Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Portrait frontispiece. Lightly rubbed at extremities, spotting and tanning to endpapers, contents a little toned, spine cracked between front free endpaper and half-title. A very good copy in the rubbed and tanned jacket with small chips from the head of the spine panel.
