First edition, first printing. Presentation copy inscribed by the author to the French translator of her books on the front free endpaper, "To Monsieur Louis Gillet with regard & admiration. Edith Wharton. October 1925". With a correction in the author's hand to page 52 and Gillet's handwritten shelf number sticker to the upper panel of the jacket.
Octavo. Original red cloth backed grey boards, printed paper label to spine. With the dust jacket. Corners very slightly bumped, endpapers toned, spotting to edges and margins of contents. A very good copy in the chipped, tanned, and marked jacket with a clean split down the spine fold.
