First edition, first printing. Presentation copy inscribed by the author to the French translator of her books on the half-title, "A monsieur Louis Gillet mon trés amical souvenir. Edith Wharton. Âout 1927". With Gillet's handwritten shelf number sticker to the upper panel of the jacket.
Octavo. Original purple cloth, titles to spine and upper board gilt, pictorial endpapers. With the dust jacket. A few tiny bumps to edges, spotting to endpapers and edges of contents. An excellent copy in the jacket that is frayed and chipped particularly along the top edges with some loss to the spine title.
