CHURCHILL, Winston S.
A Speech by The Prime Minister
... in the House of Commons August 20th, 1940.
First Edition, First Impression, of the speech which contains the famous quote "Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few." Interestingly, this resounding phrase was a rhetorical pattern long adopted by Churchill: closely similar phrasing can be found in at least five of Churchill's speeches or writings between 1899 and 1910 (see David Reynolds, In Command of History, Allen Lane 2004). A variant issue from that recorded by Woods - A60(a) - which has the imprint of the Ministry of Information and pale blue wraps.
Octavo. 16pp. wire-stitched pamphlet, in light card wraps, titles to upper panel in maroon, housed in chemise in purpose-made black morocco-backed slip case. Some foxing to wraps and first/last few leaves and staples slightly rusted, as usual, but overall a very good copy.
