Military Operations on the North-West Frontiers of India. Vols. I and II.
Papers regarding British Relations with the Neighbouring on the North-West Frontier of India, and the Military Operations undertaken against them during the Year, 1897-1898. [C.- 8713 & C. - 8714]
First editions, print run of 1875, fairly uncommon. Obviously these volumes form part of the run of Blue Books, but as a stand-alone item COPAC records only the BL, and OCLC adds just 3 sets, none in the US. Essential source material for the campaign that Churchill considered to have been a declaration to the whole world of the British people's "faith in the higher destinies of their race." (Malakand Field Force, p.314) Attached are two 4-page papers giving the Strength of British Battalions, and Killed and Wounded in the campaign.
Foolscap quarto ( 315 × 208 mm). In recent marbled wrappers. Some marginal browning and brittleness, some chipping of the title page to Volume I which is now guarded, a few other minor chips, else very good.
