This novel represents the author’s only attempt at full-length fiction, a melodramatic tale of a liberal revolution in an autocratic Mediterranean state: the hero, Savrola, was a compound of himself and Lord Randolph. The UK edition was delayed by serialization of the story in a magazine, so the US issue was actually published first.

Octavo. Recent burgundy morocco, titles and decoration to spine, raised bands, single rule to boards, marbled endpapers, gilt edges. Some occasional light foxing, an excellent copy handsomely bound.
