The Chartwell Edition, not in the standard red cloth, but in the uncommon deluxe binding of "moderate blue" quarter morocco. Issued on the completion of Churchill's masterly account of the Second World War, this edition includes the author's last revisions and is also fully illustrated. It was published at 19 guineas, or £21 by subscription, as against the standard binding at £12 9s 6d or 13 guineas by subscription.
6 volumes, large octavo. Original quarter blue morocco on blue linen boards, titles gilt to spine, compartment panels formed of triple fillet gilt, marbled endpapers, blue top-stain. Coloured frontispiece to each, and 185 half-tone plates, numerous maps, plans and diagrams, many of them folding. A little shelf-wear, but overall very good.
