HERFORD, Oliver.
Sea Legs.
First edition of this satirical alphabet by Oliver Herford, who was born in Sheffield in 1863 and moved to the US as a child, later becoming a prolific writer and illustrator. He regularly contributed comic verses and illustrations to magazines such as Life and The Ladies Home Journal, and became known for his bon mots. Herford's illustrated books and alphabets, particularly The Rubiayat of a Persian Kitten and The Little Book of Bores, were very popular. This alphabet, featuring flappers in titillating situations on a cruise liner, was first published in the women's magazine The Delineator. A charming and scarce title.
