The binding is signed in gilt at the foot of the rear turn-in, and is a characteristic example of the "vellucent bindings" produced by Cedric Chivers of Bath from 1903. In these bindings the painting is on paper under the vellum, rather than on the underside of the vellum as in the Edwards of Halifax bindings.

Octavo (188 × 121 mm). "Vellucent" binding by Cedric Chivers of Bath in transparent vellum over yellow paper, with watercolour painting under the vellum, the front cover with an inset of a street scene within an outer decorative panel, the rear cover with a lilac panel, spine lettered in lilac, the design heightened with gold tooling, top edge gilt, others uncut. Illustrated by Hugh Thomson. Occasional light foxing, very pale watermarking to early leaves at upper outer corner, but a very good copy.
